What is Revolution?
Revolution is a church in the Westport-Midtown area of Kansas City. Our mission is to encourage all people to rethink the societal norms, remove the dividing barriers, and reshape the future of our city and world. We hope you can attend a worship service this Sunday at 11am. Everyone is welcome, please come as you are!

Hello Revolution,
When I was a kid, my mom received the same gift from me every Mother’s Day:
coupons. That’s right…coupons. But they were no ordinary coupons; these
were coupons that I made with my own two hands. And my mother could redeem
these coupons to receive luxurious benefits like “one (1) free foot-rub,”
“one (1) deluxe grilled cheese sandwich,” and “three (3) free compliments.”
Looking back, I can’t believe I made my mom, one of the sweetest and most
beautiful women in the world, redeem a coupon for compliments!
What’s worse is that I never kept up my end of the bargain. I enjoyed
making my mother smile by giving her the coupons, but by the time the sun
had set on Mother’s Day, I had all but forgotten about the gifts I promised
to give her. And every year, my mom would graciously let me slide (I can
only remember her “redeeming” one coupon over all those years), telling me
that all that matters to her on Mother’s Day is knowing that I love her and
feel loved by her.
I told you she is sweet and beautiful.
Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and it’s not always a happy day for everyone.
Some of our mothers have passed away. Others were absent or abusive. And
in worship this Sunday, we will acknowledge the grief many feel this time of
year. But we’ll also affirm the love of our mothers (and other women in our
lives who’ve been motherly toward us), and we’ll celebrate how God is like a
mother to all her children, and all that matters to God is knowing that we
love God and feel loved by God. I hope to see you there.

Here are your Revolution updates:
*+ This Sunday in Worship - 11am +*
Three big things are happening this Sunday at your church. First, Pastor
Geovanna is preaching the Mother’s Day sermon. Second, we will be sporting
perhaps the largest band in Revolution’s history (and I mean the number of
people, not the weight of the people). Third, we’ll kick off “El Salvador
Month” at Revolution, during which we’ll learn something new each week about
El Salvador and how we can all contribute to our new El Salvador Project.
See you there!
*+ Picnic at Loose Park- Sunday May 16th- After service + *
Join us at Loose Park after church for good food and good fun. The large
shelter is reserved by another group so we will be meeting at the
picnic area just east of the playground and close to the 51st and Wornall
entrance where there is lots of ground space. Look for the bright orange
flag. If you have extra blankets, chairs or even card tables please bring
them! Please bring a main course, side dish or dessert to share and your own
dishes and utensils. Drinks and cups will be provided. Frisbees, balls and
other outdoor games are encouraged too! Let April know if you plan to come:

Hello Revolution,
Sunday is my favorite day of the week, because it’s when I have the chance
to see our community gathered together, in one place at one time. These
five years at Revolution have been the most fulfilling years of my life so
far. Just think of all that we’ve been able to celebrate together…
weddings. Baptisms. Tree-plantings. Fundraisers (for Ecuador, Guatemala,
N2N, Refugee Friends Center, and more). Fall festivals. Worship. Communion.
Small groups. Potlucks. New babies. Healings and other miracles. 275,000
Neighbor-to-Neighbor meals. I could keep going, but you get the idea…
There is nothing like being the church together, and it’s when we’re
together that God’s power in us is revealed. Words cannot convey the deep
sense of gratitude I feel for your lives, for our lives together, and for
God’s Life among us, and an email cannot express the longing I have to see
what God will do next with us, for us, and through us. Thank you,
Revolution!

*+++ This Sunday’s Message :: “Passages: Learning to Celebrate Life’s
Victories” +++*
We live in a move-on world. The minute we achieve one thing, almost
immediately, it’s on to the next. Rarely do we stop and celebrate all of
life’s victories, big and small. This Sunday, as we honor our graduates and
thank our teachers, we will rethink the societal norm that encourages us to
jump from one achievement to the next, and we will learn to stop and
celebrate the successes of each and every day.
Also, keep in mind that it’s the first Sunday of the month, which means
we’ll share Holy Communion together. So, please bring some bread (any kind
of bread) to share with our homeless brothers and sisters through Neighbor
to Neighbor’s bread rack ministry. Thanks!
*+++ Graduation Sunday +++*
Are you graduating from elementary, junior high, high school, college, or
graduate school this year? This Sunday, May 2, we would like to honor your
achievement! Please let us know if you, your child, or someone you know is
a graduate by hitting REPLY and telling us about it! Then show up for
worship on May 2, and let us shower you with all the attention you deserve.
Also that same day, we’ll thank the teachers in our congregation for their
contributions over the past school year. It will be a special service…if
you have a friend, neighbor, or family member who is a teacher, bring them
along and let us thank them!
*+++ El Salvador Project :: A Note from Susan Nickell, Team Leader +++*
*We are going to have a short meeting after worship on Sunday in the Red
Room. (I emphasize SHORT!) It will concern only the display/info for El
Salvador month which is starting on May 9. Anyone who can help, or has an
idea please plan on attending. *
*Thanks, *
*Susan*

*Hello Revolution,*
Thursday, April 22, is Earth Day 2010. Over the past two weeks, we’ve
lifted up lots of reasons why Earth is a pretty sweet place to call home. I
hope you’ll carve out some space in your schedule tomorrow to pause and say
a prayer of thanks. Also, I’m proud to announce that Revolution will once
again be host to a large paper recycling bin, which will be placed in our
parking lot this week. So, bring your newspapers, magazines, cardboard, and
other paper items to church with you on Sunday and help us fill up the bin!

*+++ Outdoor Celebration this Sunday, 11am +++*
This Sunday, instead of gathering indoors for our “normal” worship service,
we’re going to be outside to celebrate God’s good earth. We’ll gather in
the parking lot for some acoustic music, a brief message, and a prayer.
Then the party will continue with an outdoor, potluck brunch (BRING donuts,
muffins, or fruit, etc.), coffee, flower-planting (for the kids),
kite-flying, a community art project, and more. Also, you’re invited to
bring along your frisbees, kites, kick-balls, or anything else that could
add to the party! Invite a friend; this will be a blast.
*+++ Graduation Sunday, May 2 +++*
Are you graduating from elementary, junior high, high school, college, or
graduate school this year? On Sunday, May 2, we would like to honor your
achievement! Please let us know if you, your child, or someone you know is
a graduate by hitting REPLY and telling us about it! Then show up for
worship on May 2, and let us shower you with the attention you deserve.
Also on May 2, we’ll thank the teachers in our congregation for their
contributions over the past school year. It will be a special day!
*+++ Are You Interested in Helping Launch an Alternative Worship Service at
Revolution? +++*
Revolution’s Leadership Team has recently discussed the possibility of
launching an alternative form of worship at an alternative time. One option
being considered is an evening service that feels more like a small group -
more laid-back atmosphere (maybe in the Red Room), more acoustic music, more
conversation sermons, etc. If you are interested in being a part of a team
to explore this possibility, please let us know by sending a simple email to
kcrevolution[at]gmail[dot]com with NEW SERVICE in the subject bar. If we have
enough feedback, we’ll form an exploratory team to pursue this further.
Thanks!

I hope to see you this weekend as we celebrate God’s creation together. If
the weather’s bad, we’ll simply take the party indoors, so don’t let that
keep you away! Have a great end to your week.
In the Revolutionary Love of Christ,
Eric

*Here are your updates:*
*::: WORMS this Sunday at Revolution :::*
It’s part 2 of “God’s Canvas: Celebrating the Creator’s Masterpiece,” our
current sermon series, and we will continue last week’s celebration by
looking at worms. Yeah, worms. Just trust me; it’s going to be fun. Bring
a friend. 11am.
*::: OUTDOOR CELEBRATION Sunday, April 25 :::*
The final part of this series will include an outdoor celebration, in our
parking lot (on top of the labyrinth). We’ll have bagels, fruit, donuts,
coffee, and juice, as well as live music, a community art project, and lots
of fun things for kids to do. It’ll be a blast!
*::: CALLING ALL ARTISTS…i know you’re out there :::*
We need some help with a couple of projects for the aforementioned outdoor
celebration. Specifically we need artistically-inclined people to
coordinate and set up community art projects that will encourage people to
appreciate beauty. If you’re an artist looking for a creative outlet,
please let me know by responding to this email asap! Thanks.
*::: Let’s Go to the Farm! :::*
Join us at Deanna Rose Farmstead on Saturday, April 17th to enjoy a day with
the animals! Everyone is invited to meet at 10:30 am to get to know each
other better and enjoy some spring fun. The Farmstead is open from 9 to 5 pm
and located at 13800 Switzer in Overland Park, KS 66221. Admission is $2 per
person and children under 1 are free. No reservations needed, but let us
know if you’re planning to come by emailing April at
revolutionapril[at]gmail[dot]com or replying to the Facebook events.
*::: Change for Flowers = Flowers for Change :::*
On April 25th we will be celebrating Earth Day and the kids will be helping
by planting flowers outside during the service! This Sunday the kids will be
collecting change to purchase flowers as they leave the sanctuary. Help us
make the outside of Revolution beautiful and welcoming with your change!
Also if you have any gardening tools you’d like to lend for the 25th we’d be
happy to use them!
*::: EL SALVADOR TEAM IS A GO :::*
the brand spankin’ new El Salvador Team is up and running after a great
first meeting on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to all those who made it. If
you’re still interested in helping send children in El Salvador to high
school and college, it’s not to late to get involved. Contact Susan
Nickell, Team leader, at snickell[at]kc[dot]rr[dot]com today!
That’s it for now. See you Sunday at 11.
