Late July, 2017 - A Note from Pastor Steve
“I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.”
Hi, Revolution family and friends!
You are receiving this newsletter at the junction point of two sermon series. On Sunday, we will share in the last sermon of the “With Great Power . . . “ series, examining the popular hero Batman and the biblical hero David and continuing to see what they can tell us about ourselves. I’m extremely thankful to Rebecca Lahann for sharing her message on Wonder Woman last Sunday. Rebecca, by the way, is the chair of the Keystone Church Council.
Then on Sunday, August 6, we are starting discussion of “A Different Kind of Justice.” Revolution has a tremendous history of work in the social justice arenas -- a wonderful tradition of examining and challenging the social systems in our environments. During the coming weeks, we’ll examine what it means to be seeking justice by working alongside individuals -- honoring the challenging statement of Jesus that “just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”
Friends, there is a lot going on at Revolution -- Associate Pastor Candace Shaw has just finished leading our Summer Online Small Group, and they were great gatherings, warm and spiritually challenging. I think it will be a model for an additional way for some of our small groups to get together. This Sunday we will share in a Fifth Sunday Feast after service. I hope you will join us for delicious food and Christian fellowship. In a few weeks, we’ll be engaging in the RevKids Play & Serve weekend -- a Friday through Sunday opportunity for kids and families to learn more about God, serve God’s kingdom and have fun doing it!
I give thanks to God for each of you and your presence in Revolution, in the community and in God’s world.
